A small victory

In 2017, Mum moved in with Edward in Durrington, West Worthing. The only nearby shop was a Tesco supermarket, which you could reach from Edward's estate by walking down an ummade path, through some bushes and across the entrance road to the site.  Mum noticed that this was unsafe, especially for children, as the path brought you out right onto the road where cars would be heading to the car park, and there were no safety precautions to help prevent accidents.

Mum, who disliked Tesco anyway (which may or may not have been part of her motivation) decided to take up this cause.  Rather than complaining on Facebook, she wrote to the local councillor and she and I met him at the local community centre.  The councillor, despite being a Conservative (not a good start as far as Mum was concerned!), turned out to be very helpful and arranged for a representative from Tesco to get involved.  In due course, and to their credit, Tesco changed the whole layout, repainted the road markings and installed a proper crossing.  Mum was quite proud of having achieved a small victory against a large corporation!
