In 1969 we moved from Orpington in Kent to Steyning in West Sussex, around 50 miles away.  This was a major step as it took us out of the ambit of Dad's (Keith) mother and father, who lived just half a mile up the road in Orpington.  This entailed some angst, as can be imagined, but clearly Mum felt it was something we had to do.
